CLIMATE
As a parent, I'm concerned about what kind of world awaits future generations.
I believe San Anselmo can and should become a model for how a community can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the extreme events we can expect because of climate change including flooding, extreme heat, wildfire and power outages.
We got a glimpse of what to expect in the future when the power was out for four days in 2019 and when we had orange sky days in 2020.
We have an opportunity to plan for this more extreme future: as San Anselmo updates its General Plan, we can systematically think about what kind of infrastructure we need to protect our quality of life, and then start working on building it, funded by record-setting federal and state incentives.
As as a former chair of the San Anselmo Climate Action Commission, I am proud of the work we did to write the town climate plan and EV plan and advocate for the Town hall solar microgrid which will be built in 2025 to reduce the Town’s energy bills and provide clean emergency back-up power. Much more can and should be built.
As Kamala Harris has said, "let's not throw up our hands, let's roll up our sleeves." Let's work together as a community to collectively envision the more resilient future we want, then get on with building it!
